BRANDS WE CARRY

Deciding on a type of flooring for your home can be difficult, but vinyl plank flooring can make the decision much more manageable. Vinyl floors have come a long way since the days of flimsy material that came in rolls. Check out our wide selection of luxury vinyl planks at Preferred Flooring and see what this innovative style of flooring can do for your home.

What is Vinyl Plank Flooring?

Luxury vinyl planks are made to mimic the rich appearance of hardwood planks. The planks are comprised of several layers to create a floor that is beautiful, durable, and easy to install. Vinyl plank floors are made using a wood-plastic composite (WPC) or stone plastic composite (SPC). The two are nearly identical, aside from the elements that make up the plank’s core.

WPC Layers

  1. Wear Layer: The transparent top layer adds scratch and dent resistance.
  2. Vinyl Top Coat: A thin layer of vinyl attached to the core.
  3. Decorative Print Layer: The layer that features the image of the plank, generally a style of hardwood.
  4. WPC Core: The base of the blank uses wood pulp, plasticizers, and foaming agents to make a waterproof core that feels comfortable underfoot.

SPC Layers

  1. Wear Layer
  2. Vinyl Top Coat: The design image of an SPC plank is found in this layer.
  3. SPC Core: A combination of limestone and stabilizers creates a solid core.
  4. Attached Underlayment: The underlayment adds softness for increased comfort when standing and reduces sound to eliminate a hollow sound when you walk.

Why Should I Buy It?

The almost exact replication of genuine hardwood is only the first of vinyl plank flooring’s many advantages.

  • Luxury vinyl planks are water-resistant. This means you can install vinyl planks in any room of your house, including the kitchen, bathroom, and even basement.
  • It is among the most kid and pet-friendly types of flooring. Vinyl plank flooring is exceptionally durable and resistant to scratches and dents. It’s flooring that is made to be used.
  • You can install vinyl planks below or above grade without worrying about your floor shifting or expanding and contracting during temperature and humidity changes.
  • Are you a weekend warrior who loves DIY projects? Vinyl planks are your dream come true. The click-lock installation requires no adhesive or glue. You can install floating floors over any existing floor as long as it’s flat. You can even place vinyl plank flooring over the carpet.
  • If you’re doing a remodel or new build, you can install vinyl planks even if your cabinetry has already been placed. Vinyl plank flooring is thinner than hardwood planks which allows it to be installed without removing any existing cabinetry or large appliances.
  • Life is busy, and sometimes you need things done as quickly as possible. With vinyl floors, there is no waiting time after installation. No adhesive means no wait time while the glue cures, so you can use your floors immediately without risking any damage. It’s also a far less messy venture than installing ceramic tile.
  • It’s a fantastic temporary flooring solution. There’s no reason you can’t keep your vinyl plank flooring for 10+ years, but if you’re using it in a rental property or plan to remodel soon, it can be removed almost as quickly as you installed it.
  • We saved one of the best perks for last. Vinyl plank flooring is super easy to clean and maintain. It can get wet, you can use any cleaner without causing discoloration or fading, and its high level of scratch resistance allows you to use any style of broom or vacuum. Because nobody has ever said, “I wish my floors were harder to take care of.”
